  • Shrimp and Grits

Anyone in the south knows that shrimp and grits are a staple! This is my mom’s recipe and it is oh so good. If you’re feeling extra fancy, melt some of your favorite cheese into the grits. Grits can be eaten with anything in my opinion!

    Ingredients:

    • 2/3 cup old fashioned grits
    • 1 1/3 cups half & half
    • 1 1/3 cups water
    • 1/4 tsp salt
    • 1/8 tsp seasoning salt
    • 1 tsp cajun seasoning
    • 1 diced green onion
    • 1 pack smoked sausage, cut into rounds
    • 1 diced green bell pepper
    • 3 T butter
    • 12 oz shrimp

    Steps:

    1. Bring half & half and water to a boil. Add grits, salt, and seasoning salt. Cook as directed on package.
    2. In a deep skillet, add 1T butter and bell pepper. Cook for 3-4 min or until pepper softens.
    3. Add smoked sausage and cook another 2-3 min.
    4. Add shrimp and white part of green onion. Add remaining butter and cajun seasoning and cook until shrimp are cooked through. Garnish with green onion and serve over grits!
